Fresh Local Highlights

South Shore spots bringing joy, color, and a little kid-in-a-toy-store feeling.

Toys “R” Us at Tanger Outlets

Walking into the new Toys “R” Us at Tanger feels a little surreal in the best way. The first thing you see is Geoffrey himself sitting on a bright blue bench, waiting for kids to climb up and take a picture. And they absolutely do. Parents were snapping photos nonstop, and you could tell half of the smiles in that store were adults remembering what it felt like to be a kid in those aisles.

Inside, it hits that perfect mix of nostalgia and new energy. The classic sections are back with the same playful fonts and bright colors, but now they’re blended with all the modern favorites like Paw Patrol, CoComelon, and the latest holiday toys. Every aisle has a little personality, from “pretend play” to “create” to “have fun,” and it brings back that feeling of wandering around for hours trying to decide what to take home.

The staff added to the experience. Everyone seemed genuinely excited to be there, pointing families to the right shelves and sharing recommendations. Holiday music played through the speakers and the whole store had this warm buzz to it. Even better, Tanger itself is fully decorated for the season. The big Christmas tree is already up at the center, and once the lights turn on, the whole vibe feels like a full holiday outing for families.

For anyone who grew up singing the jingle or spent Saturday mornings running through these aisles, this opening is more than a new retail spot. It’s a little piece of childhood back on Long Island, right on the edge of the South Shore, just in time for the holidays.
